About Friends & Neighbors

Founded by Tom Campenni

I am a native of New York City. For more than 40 years, I have been an entrepreneur who started and owned many businesses including contracting and construction, bars, restaurants, and commercial properties. Since 1971, I have been a licensed real estate professional and currently am licensed in Florida and New York.

My interest in politics and government began in childhood. Since the 1970s, I have worked on many political campaigns for federal, state, and local offices. I moved fulltime to Stuart in 2006, I was a Stuart City Commissioner for 4 years. I currently serve on the Stuart Community Redevelopment Board and Martin County’s Parks & Recreation Board.

There is a strong streak of philanthropic interest by both Polly and I. Polly is very much involved in animal rescue organizations and is a member of Martin County’s Animal Control & Oversight Board. I currently serve on the boards of the Center for Constitutional Values, Stuart Main Street, Martin County Taxpayers Association, Gertrude Walden Child Care, Indian River Lagoon Management Board, Stuart Rotary, and the United Way of Martin County.

Polly & I have three adult children. They, their spouses our one granddaughter all live in the New York metropolitan area.

I began Friends & Neighbors while I was a Stuart City Commissioner as a way of informing my constituents about what was happening in their city government. I have since expanded it to include all of Martin County’s various municipal governments, County government, and the School Board.

I believe that government at the local level has the most impact on citizens…both good and bad. That is why I have continued to write and send Friends & Neighbors to my now nearly 20,000 subscribers.

Tell me what you think about the County. You do not need to agree with me. However, I do have some posting parameters. Your posts need to be free of invective and personal insults. There can be no foul language in any writing. Nor is the newsletter intended to discuss social issues. Finally, I am the final arbiter on what is posted.
