Karen’s passion for knowledgeable caring motivated her to a long and storied career as a nurse and health care administrator. She graduated from Indian River Community College in 1975 as a Registered Nurse and began what would become a 35-year career with Martin Health System (formerly Martin Memorial Hospital, now Cleveland Clinic Martin) before retiring as Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President for Patient Care in 2011. During her career, she achieved a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Florida Atlantic University and a master’s in business administration from Barry University 

Karen joined the Council on Aging Martin County in 2011 and became the Chief Operating Officer in 2014. She played an instrumental role in formulating a successful business plan for the Council’s expanded programs for seniors in the Council’s new home at the Kane Center on Salerno Road in Stuart. Karen was named President and Chief Executive Officer of the Council on Aging in March 2015. The Council on Aging Martin County at the Kane Center is a nonprofit agency for aging in Martin County and has served thousands of seniors for more than 50 years.
