Marcelo Guimarães was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After earning a scholarship to study Electrical Engineering at the University of Kansas, he went on to complete a master’s degree in Optics from the University of Rochester while working at Kodak. Following a successful career in science and engineering, Marcelo shifted paths in 2013 to pursue one of his passions – travel. He founded Discover Scandinavia Tours, a boutique company devoted to crafting exceptional journeys through the Nordic countries. In 2025, the company evolved into SilverOpus, expanding its reach while remaining true to its mission of offering authentic, meaningful experiences to discerning travelers. Marcelo now lives in Stuart, Florida, with his wife, Amy, and their daughter, Luciana.
