After earning two teaching credentials from a prestigious program in 2005, Sydney began her education career in Northern California. After a five-year break to stay at home with her two children, she returned to the classroom at Riverbend Academy in Martin County, where she was nominated for Teacher of the Year.
Sydney later became a Prevention Intervention Program Specialist for the Martin County School District, gaining expertise in education policy, mental health, and special education. Sydney built lasting relationships with school and district leaders while collaborating to support at-risk students in the community. In 2020, Sydney left education, but remained an outspoken and engaged advocate, attending school board meetings, and fighting for students' voices.
Taking advocacy to the next level, Sydney ran for MCSD School Board District 2 in 2024 but lost to the incumbent of 12 years. She continues to advocate passionately for a strong public education in Martin County that serves ALL students in the community.
